PaperMarbles Project

My photo
I am Maynerd... apparently the artist formerly known as PaperMarbleS... The reason this whole blog started up so long ago was for the PaperMarbleS project, which I never really motivated enough to actually make it come to light... Well, It's back. The First edition of the PMSProject should be ready to roll in late 2011, and there are some sweet ideas rolling for it. The content of the actual blog may shift a bit, as I won't be showing so much of the process of the art, but more of what it is that influences the end results... Also Show recaps and other random tidbits of Awesome... Heads up Stand up.

Getting there...

I was too tired last night to enter anything... But it was a good little session... I Started the base coat and pondered the concept of yet another painting...got close to finishing the bird cut out dealy, and made some progress on another.

Here's a look at all the collective works of this series...all in progress in some form or another.  Take note of the High Life, PBR, and Red Bull in the background...the 3 essential things to a productive night...  maybe.  ?

Birds...lots of them...not done, but getting close.  I like this one.

This is the newest little addition...  Only in the first step and still needs a lot of work, but i have some good ideas on how this one will turn out.  sorry for the bad pic, but there's not much to show off right now anyways.

I'm the most sketched out about this one out of all the pieces i'm working on...  It just isn't seeming to come together, but i can't get myself to scrap what i've started and go back to the beginning...  sometimes, pieces like these turn out the best since your always trying to make it better; But, sometimes you wish you would've burned it from the beginning - we'll see how this one ends up.

...Not so bad after all...

So, it turns out that I had a little motivation tonight... Worked on these two, pretty stoked...

Thanks Darlene...

So, today was supposed to be a big day...  I've got seven pieces started, 3 of which are waiting on a clear coat i ordered, just to make it to the next step...  I've been waiting, and waiting for this stuff to show up at my door.  I've been that customer that tracks his order every day to make sure it shows up on time...Now, today it arrives.  I tore into it like an 8 year old at christmas, trying to open their present before their brother could open his, just so they could be excited before he could be...Initially, I'm stoked, thinking that it was even better than I had planned - and then i look a little closer...the completely wrong shit!  Might as well have shot my eye out...  Instead of 1.5 quartz of a thick clear top coat, they send me 1.5 Gallons of a 'penetrating' base coat, that doesn't even dry clear...  Super bummed...now it's just more of the waiting game...

"this package was packed by Darlene..." Awesome...thanks Darlene...

So, now I've got a bad attitude and am lacking motivation; and instead of my big idea i had for this entry, I'm left with showing you the beginnings of the newest piece...which will sometime receive this so called clear coat...

Clear Water

I spent some time yesterday with my dremel tool sanding and fine tuning this bad mamajama...very intense and meticulous work, but turned out pretty good.
Today I added a layer of watercolor to it, just to highlight the wood grain in a different sort of way... I like how you can see the grain really well with a mellow colored background...Tonight will consist of 3 or so clear coats...

Jigsaw...

Started yet another piece today...  Got my Jigsaw on and cut out the beginnings of it...It's hard to tell what it'll end up to be like, but so far so good - a lot of fine tuning left to get it up to speed...

...knowing is half the battle...

I tried adding a new clear coat that i've never used before...didn't quite end up how i wanted it...looks like i have to rework this little guy some...It's always shitty when you do this to a piece that your stoked on (especially a brand new one)...but I think it may have added an alright effect and might even end up better than it began...Here's to trial and error...

painty painterson...

Tonight i decided to spend the majority of my time in the dirty, dingy workspace in the basement of my house... I listened to hip-hop and drank a few of the champagne of beers while painting the beginnings of 2 pieces that have the same kind of feel and overall scheme... mostly just background layout on both for now...

Day 1... Welcome

Welcome to the beginning of the 'Documentatery' of the PaperMarbleS project...this is day number ONE...the first post of many that will show the process of me piecing together my new project, and also creating my other works of art in general...  I will be spending many days and late nights in the future in a dingy basement studio with a low ceiling that's filled with dust and spider webs - or hunched over this desk in my dark bedroom with my headphones on staring at my computer screen while my girlfriend watches Sex and the City and slowly falls asleep...  I'm hoping that this will give a good showing of the work and time that goes into the making of any piece of art...in this case, a mini, self promotional mini 'zine called the PaperMarbleS project...
