PaperMarbles Project

My photo
I am Maynerd... apparently the artist formerly known as PaperMarbleS... The reason this whole blog started up so long ago was for the PaperMarbleS project, which I never really motivated enough to actually make it come to light... Well, It's back. The First edition of the PMSProject should be ready to roll in late 2011, and there are some sweet ideas rolling for it. The content of the actual blog may shift a bit, as I won't be showing so much of the process of the art, but more of what it is that influences the end results... Also Show recaps and other random tidbits of Awesome... Heads up Stand up.

ninja sighting!

A couple of weeks ago, while i was satisfying my hunger with a beautiful chipotle fajita burrito...  Eye spied a ninja - Stealth Blasting over the fence from the parking lot above, down to the sidewalk below... Then he pranced and prowled himself across the street and was gone... disappear!  I was pretty amazed since i don't see ninjas every day; especially of this caliber.  I go about my business and continue soaking in the idea of seeing a ninja all blasty like that... When all of the sudden i see him shredding his way back to the parking lot and dude means business too.  I thought maybe he'd take it mellow and take the stairs back up to the parking lot, but NO, he's a NINJA... In one swift move, that consisted of 3 even sweeter moves, lil shinobi was up the wall, over the fence and vanishing...  totally blown away...  I'd like to say that that's what this next painting's about, but it's nothing like that at all...  except for the blasty part.
Watercolor on wood panel
painted with watercolor, and acrylic, drawn in accents and a clear coat...
Cut out blocks, painted, glued on - some at different heights...
I still have to mount him to the piece, but it's basically done...
this view gives you a better idea of what's actually happening here...

Progress Report 9000

the weekend was good in terms of getting my work done...  It ended up being a lot of relaxing, a lot of painting, and some scooter tinkering, and sleep... i enjoyed it quite thoroughly.  I squeezed this little bastard out monday night finally, just in time to start a newby.
Finished attacking with the Scroll saw
Setting up the frame work, which will also act as a wall for the layer of resin...
Resin is poured and set, outlines and details drawn, and the mounting blocks for the lil guy are set...
some cutting, and pasting of special words happened for the speech bubble... finished product, front and side view...

deadbeat suave's...

Took lil guy to the vet the other day, and come across the age chart... Niko needs to get himself a job and get his act together... 24 years old still living with his dad, and no job... typical.

since we started...

Day 3...  Started the second piece of this puzzle...  This little gem of a friend is acrylic on bamboo, and will be cut out with a scroll saw tomorrow and find it's home on the top of the resin coat... Pretty stoked and satisfied on the progress...
pretty self explanatory, initial sketch and the beginnings of filling in the blanks...
details set
call it a night...

day two...

Day 2 of 11... still procrastinating, but seem to have put my work pants on...  I made a couple of stencils for this picture, the first being a little octopalguything...
then a simple maple leaf...
Here i added the typical clouds and land, a little bit of swirly foliage throughout the bottom... No outlines on this layer yet, those will come after a thin coat of resin...

It Has Begun..!

Apparently, when it comes to making art (especially during 29 consecutive days with no rain in Seattle...) it also comes with the art of procrastination... Which I seem to have a firm grasp of.  I have a group show coming up on July 2nd at SnoCon called 'Cheap Thrills,' and tonight is the first night of work... I need to have 3 new pieces for this one since all of my other work is still in Minneapolis...  So here's to the next 11 days of late nights of mind bottling progress... yes, mind Bottling.

Foosball table complete...

I've been busy lately...Not painting, but rebuilding my foosball table - pretty much revamped the whole thing... new men, play field, goals and backboards, new ball return, angled sides, and some extra reinforcement.  It's a beautiful thing...
