PaperMarbles Project

My photo
I am Maynerd... apparently the artist formerly known as PaperMarbleS... The reason this whole blog started up so long ago was for the PaperMarbleS project, which I never really motivated enough to actually make it come to light... Well, It's back. The First edition of the PMSProject should be ready to roll in late 2011, and there are some sweet ideas rolling for it. The content of the actual blog may shift a bit, as I won't be showing so much of the process of the art, but more of what it is that influences the end results... Also Show recaps and other random tidbits of Awesome... Heads up Stand up.

Savage and PMS at Artoleptic 2009

Artoleptic was on Sunday...
Saturday Mat and I built a stand for our 4x8 sheet that we were bringing...  Ended up working really well, and had a lot of fun painting this one...  Started at noon, and painted until about 7:30 or 8.  This whole painting big thing may be catching on...
Below are pictures of the work in progress - photos taken about every 2 hours or so...

PaperMarbleS... DONE.

HouseSitting...

So this past week, and for a bit more... I have been in-trusted with the keys to YoDawgs homestead, and the care of his animals... Which involves the task of drinking all of his beer, skate his mini ramp, water the plants, check the mail, cat box and other cat needs and acts, and of course: Boris; the epitome of a crotchety, old, lazy, smelly man who hates everything... but he's still pretty rad.  been hauling the boar and Niko to work everyday this week, the 2 have gotten pretty close in this time.

Pretty sick pic of Boar Ass killing it dingo style in the warehouse...

In the mean time... I asked Johan if I could paint his mini ramp...
I worked on it late tonight and almost finished...

If your not familiar with Artoleptic, check out the blog... and here's the mission statement to give you a better idea of the haps:

PaperMarblesS... Room 211

3 weeks of work... clocking in at about 120+ hours.  3 beers, 1 monster, and one large bottle of vitamin water every 6 hours, with an occasional vanilla latte.  A 110 song playlist stuck on repeat that consisted of Dosh, Animal Collective, the Octopus Project, and the Dodos.  3 gallons of paint.  21 cans of spray paint.  Numerous ounces of acrylic.  One bottle of india ink.  More than my share of Excederin Extra strength, and Excederin Back and Body pain.   New and improved methods of painting.  Equalling out to be the most fun, most enjoyable, most educational, and most challenging and largest painting slash mural i've ever done...  The pictures were taken at about 2:30 am with my phone, so i'm sorry for the poor quality, but this gives you a good idea of what it's like inside PaperMarbleS' room 211 at Seattle City Hostel.  Thanks for letting me be a part of this amazing project.
Main door
bad picture, but detail of interconnecting faces/clouds in the corner
continuing around the room...  these clouds will be mostly blocked off by the bunk beds, but it felt so empty when they weren't there.
This is the wall that you see you as you come in through the door...
Main Wall.  You can notice the 3D installation of clouds along the ceiling in this photo... The bad breath coming from this guy was intense to work on... Red and Blue vibrate a lot and bugged my eyes out if i worked on it for too long at a time...  I've never painted a character this size, but it was fun to force myself to pay more attention to his details...
Here's a detailed look at the tentacle breath... this is when it was more of just a line drawing - before it was finished.  More shading and details went into it, but you can get a good feel for the piece from this view...

211 video.

Lil Jen took this vid of my room just a few hours before I finished my room last week...

holy exhausted kyle...

logged in about 30 hours at the hostel this weekend... a lot of work got done, but there's still a lot to do. Besides the painting, i got to witness a lot of the late night belltown life... That place transforms when the sun goes down... Crack is the way of the day 'I don't drink, I smoke crack!', thuggish ruggish gangstas, dirty crazy bumlife, and hookers that are always 'workin'... i got a lot of: 'Psst...hey boy!, whatcha gettin into?' - '(me)i'm working,' - 'ah shit, me too! You need something? You looking to get into anything? what choo wanna do? I gotta place right round the corner, we can be alone...' - '(me)What i need to do is get back to work, and have you leave me alone...' Good times, mark that off the checklist...
